Mountain Equipment Dragonfly 2 man tent

Price: £290

Weight: 2.1kg

We purchased this tent specifically for our Cairngorm expedition. We had narrowed it down to the Dragonfly based on our need for a relatively light weight, fairly small pack size, robust tent that would comfortably sleep two 6ft average sized blokes. As opposed to some so called 2 man tents that we looked at that are obviously meant for a small bloke and a hobbit.

Ours didn’t seem to come with any pitching instructions. Initially this can seem a little daunting as, on first inspection laying it out on the floor, it looks something like an accident in an anorak factory.  Once past this first unease it is however fairly easy to pitch due to the colour coded poles. Once pitched and guyed down the tent is incredibly stable and you could imagine it withstanding some fairly robust winds.

In real use we found it to be superb, and although we didn’t experience any really bad weather I would imagine it would be able to cope without any real problem. While not cavernous by any means it is comfortable enough for two people, with good head room compared to some other tents. The additional zip round mesh door is also a great feature for letting in the air but keeping out the midges etc. The porch took two rucksacks ok, but if you’re after a bit more storage it might be worth looking at the Dragonfly XT which has a larger porch.

Overall we have been very impressed with it and have not had any issues with build quality at all, but will keep you posted as it gets more use.

We would therefore have no problems with recommending this superb little tent.
